World Environment Day 2024!
What about the water we drink?
What about the air we breathe in?
Stating some facts on World's Environment Day you may have never imagined:-
1. The World Overshoot Day was announced today which has shifted a day earlier to 1 August. That means whatever natural resources we use after 1 August will be from Future Generations' share.
2. If the world population lived a lavish lifestyle like Qatar - we would need approx 9 Earths, like USA - 5 Earths.
3. Climate crisis currently affects at least 10,967 species on the Red List of Threatened Species, and could drive up to 6 million different species to extinction over the next 50 years.
4. Animal-based foods, especially red meat, dairy, and farmed shrimp, are generally associated with the highest greenhouse gas emissions.
5. Carbon parts per million (ppm) is now 420+ as against the recommended level of 350 and much higher than the pre-industrial level of 280 ppm.
6. Every next month is being recorded as the hottest in human history, with 50°C becoming the new normal in North India.
7. Indian Cities are among the most polluted in the world (83 out of 100), even the developed one's - "A study by the Energy Policy Institute of the University of Chicago states that nearly 40% of Indians, or over 480 million people from Central, East and North India, could lose more than nine years of their life expectancy, if we allow 2019 levels of air pollution to continue."
"India's average particulate matter concentration exceed the World Health Organisation's (WHO) air quality guidelines by a whopping ten times."
People blame high taxes, and fewer opportunities as the reason for Migration from India, but the above factors play a major role too.
And the most hard-hitting fact is that we will all forget about Environment tomorrow.
Solutions:-
The time has passed for taking baby steps to counter this Human-Made crisis. It's high time now that Climate Crisis becomes a household topic of discussion in the entire world. If the public takes something seriously, governments take it too.
Adopt a Vegan or at least a vegetarian diet. As per UN - "Switching to a plant-based diet can reduce an individual’s annual carbon footprint by up to 2.1 tons with a vegan diet or up to 1.5 tons for vegetarians."

Most importantly, as stated in 1 and 2 above, Earth is unable to sustain this high population of humans. Population reform laws shall be brought back into the world even at the cost of economic growth.
That's all for today.
Will try to remember the importance of the environment for the other 364 days
